The Progressive Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular, which brings the top stars in both sports together in a single performance, must have been a success at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in December 2008.
They’re coming back in a couple of weeks.
The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and Disson Skating announced the new spectacular will be Friday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the civic center. Tickets are $45 to $125.
The show will feature an all-star lineup in gymnastics, figure skating and music. Olympic gymnasts Shawn Johnson – also a “Dancing with the Stars” winner – and Nastia Liukin will perform. Skaters Todd Eldredge and Emily Hughes will be on the ice. And for music, Ashley Tisdale of “High School Musical” will there as well.
The civic center’s new ice arena will be the venue. From what I heard from people who went to last year’s spectacular, the floor is divided like a three-ring circus. Gymnasts perform at each end, with skating in the middle.
And if you go, smile a lot. You could be on national television. The performance will be aired on NBC television on Jan. 10, 2010. Check the listings for the exact time.

2008 Olympic silver-medalist Horton visits Dallas to promote 2009 Visa Championships
DALLAS, May 21, 2009—2008 Olympic silver-medalist Jon Horton of Houston visited schools and gymnastics clubs in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area to promote the 2009 Visa Championships, scheduled Aug. 12-15 at the American Airlines Center. Horton visited six schools and three clubs. He is pictured addressing a school assembly at Garner Elementary in Grand Prairie, Texas and gymnasts at U.S. Gold Gymnastics in Roanoke, Texas. All-session tickets for the Visa Championships are currently on sale.
Horton helped the U.S. Olympic men’s team win the bronze medal 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and brought home an individual silver medal on horizontal bar. A three-time team captain at the University of Oklahoma, Horton’s collegiate accomplishments include: 2006 NCAA all-around champion; Oklahoma records for career All-America honors (18) and career NCAA individual titles (six) – breaking marks previously held by two-time Olympic gold-medalist Bart Conner. Horton led the Sooners to three NCAA team titles (2005-06, 2008) and a second-place finish in 2007. In 2008, he was named USA Gymnastics’ Men’s Athlete of the Year and won the 2008 NCAA Nissen-Emery Award, which is given to the top male senior gymnast.

Jennifer B. was very nice to share her photos and submit a small summary about the event.
Her gym Gymkhana “hosted the event.
“‘Jonathon Horton at Santa’s Workshop’ is at meet called Santa’s Workshop that my gymnastics club Gymkhana hosts every year. Its a toy drive and you can give a gift and get in for free. All of the toys go to local kids that aren’t very fortunate, its really a great cause. This is the first year we have had an Olympic guest. He was there to sign autographs take pictures and to promote the Tyson American Cup which I also had a chance to be in, during the Opening Ceremonies. Anyways. A lot of the girls had Jon sign their phones, like me, and he really is just a great person.”

Thanks so much Jennifer!

Jonathan will be with the OU team at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships at the University of Minnesota on April 16-18th.
I added that to the schedule.
He will NOT be attending the Women’s NCAA gymnastics Championships at Nebraska.

Here is the U. of Minnesota link regarding the NCAA Championships with information on ticket prices.
I will see if this will be broadcasted live streaming on the internet like the Regional Championships, info about that will be posted as I find it.
